Can I ask an honest question? I was trading at North Weald today with Designerpets. There were lots of people walking around and enjoying the market… but not many were actually buying. It really made me think about how much things have changed. Small traders spend time designing products, paying for stalls, travelling to markets, and trying to offer something a bit different. But we’re now competing with sites like Temu and SHEIN where items are sold for unbelievably cheap prices and delivered straight to your door. I’m not criticising anyone — everyone loves a bargain, especially at the moment. But I do wonder if we’re slowly losing something special. Markets used to be about discovering unique things, chatting with the person who actually made or chose the product, and supporting small businesses. So I’m genuinely curious… Do you still buy from market stalls? Or are markets becoming somewhere people just browse? I’d really love to hear people’s honest thoughts.
